William Lingis, 85 of Vestaburg, PA passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020 in Mon Valley Hospital.

He was born April 16, 1935 in New Salem, PA a son of the late Anthony and Genevieve Funk Lingis.

Mr. Lingis was a 1953 graduate of East Beth High School.

He was a U. S. Air Force veteran serving as a jet mechanic in Okinawa during the Korean War.

William was employed as a State Police Officer in Troop B Waynesburg. He attained the rank of Corporal and was the head of criminal investigations retiring in 1990 with 32 years of service.

Mr. Lingis was a member and past president of the Clarksville Lions Club, and a member of the F.O. P., American Legion Post # 391 Fredericktown, and former East Beth Township Commissioner and was active in the Vestaburg community.

He enjoyed many activities including trout fishing, hunting, wood crafting, gardening, bicycling and walking. He was instrumental in fund-raising for the Beth Center Band.

On October 8, 1966 he married Genevieve Helmick Lingis who survives. They celebrated 54 years of marriage.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son William A. Lingis (Dani) of New Stanton, PA; two grandchildren, Noah and Jillienne Lingis; seven siblings, Anthony Lingis (Dorothy) of Waynesburg, PA, Ralph Lingis of Eldorado Hills, CA, Robert Lingis (Barbara) of Gainesville, FL, David Lingis (Carol), Rickie Lingis (Patty), Kent Lingis, all of Vestaburg, PA and Denise Turner (Dave) of Ft. Mill, SC; several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his parents are two brothers, Charles and Kevin Lingis. BN

Funeral services are private and under the direction of the Greenlee's Fredericktown Funeral Home, Ltd. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Monday, December 14, 2020 at 1:45 PM. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Vestaburg Community Association, PO Box 311, Vestaburg, PA 15368.
