William "Bill" Hixenbaugh, 86 of Scenery Hill, PA passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023 in Washington Hospital.

He was born October 21, 1936 in Washington County, a son of the late Katherine Smith.

Bill was  a 1954 graduate of Ellsworth High School and Advanced Diesel Mechanic School.

He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic from 1954 to 1958.

Mr. Hixenbaugh was employed as an equipment operator with Penn DOT from where he retired. He was a school bus driver in the Bentworth school district, a lifelong self-employed farmer and worked for Curtis Breeding Service for over 20 years.

Bill was a lifelong member of the Beallsville United Methodist Church, the Marianna American Legion Post# 744, and the former Deemston Grange.

For many years Bill was the caretaker of the Scenery Hill Cemetery. He loved the outdoors; fishing , farming, and gardening along with his trusty companion "Smokey".  He was a foster grandfather to more than 25 children in Washington County.

On November 15, 1960 he married Rebecca Haney Hixenbaugh who survives. They celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Also surviving are a son Daniel Hixenbaugh (Wally) of Scenery Hill, PA and two grandchildren, D.J. and Becca Hixenbaugh Roebuck.

Deceased is an infant son William D. Hixenbaugh Jr.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, Ltd., 2830 Main St. Beallsville, PA where Funeral Services will be held Wednesday June 14, 2023 at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Scenery Hill Cemetery. Full Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by Steele-Lillie American Legion Post # 744 of Marianna, PA.
