William J. “Buffalo” Harvey, 88, of Scenery Hill passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, August 6, 2026, with his loving wife at his side.
He was born on October 26, 1937 in Scenery Hill, PA, a son of the late Jonas and Elsie Wilson Harvey.
Bill was a 1957 graduate of Ellsworth High School and spent many years as a coal miner at Bethlehem Mine #60. He was also the proud owner and operator of the Scenery Hill Hardware Store for over 40 years and was also a lifelong self-employed farmer.
Bill was a hardworking man but also enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, gardening, canning, playing cards with his friends and crabbing at the beach. He loved to travel to Ocean City in the summer and Arizona in the winter. He was truly one of a kind and could do almost anything from on the job to around the house.
He was a member of the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Amity, PA, the Ellsworth Sportsman’s Club, the Turkeyfoot Sportsman’s Club of Confluence and the Washington Elks.
On June 29, 1957 he married Joanne “Josie” Matko and spent 69 years wonderful years together.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons William S. Harvey (Clint) and Gary Harvey of Scenery Hill, PA and Tim (Kim) Harvey of Deemston, PA and a brother Dick (Vivian) Harvey of Pheonix, AZ. He also leaves behind grandchildren Trisha, Christopher, Nicholas and Amber, great grandchildren Dalton and Shane and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are brothers Bob Harvey and Jonas “Doodles” Harvey.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, Ltd., 2830 Main St., Beallsville, PA. Additional visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Tuesday in the Mt. Herman Baptist Church, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 with Pastor Steven Ramey officiating. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 200 Banetown Rd., Amity, PA 15311.
