Thomas M. "Tim" VanVoorhis, 83 of Eighty Four, PA passed away Friday, April 5, 2024 in Strabane Woods Washington, PA.

He was born January 2, 1941 in Washington, PA a son of the late Henry L. and Catherine (Morrow) VanVoorhis.

Tim was a 1958 graduate of Ellsworth High School and earned a bachelor's degree from The State Teachers College at California.

Mr. VanVoorhis was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. and later attained the rank of Captain serving from 1966 to 1967. He served as a pilot in country during the Vietnam War piloting a Sikorsky H-34 "Choctaw" helicopter. For his combat service he was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal with 20 Stars, Navy Unit Commendation, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, among others.

Following his exemplary service to his country he began his career at Northwest Orient Airlines and flew for over 30 years before retiring as a Captain from Northwest in 2001.

Tim was a World Champion Archer and member of the Lee County Archers in Ft. Myers, FL. An avid reader, hunter and firearm enthusiast, he was also a particularly good cook but most of all a proud grandfather. With his quirky sense of humor and captivating stories, he enjoyed his daily coffee with his buddies at McDonalds in Bentleyville and also solving all the world's problems with them at lunch at Kenny's Grocery in Scenery Hill, PA.

Surviving are three children, Tom H. VanVoorhis of Allen, TX, Amber (VanVoorhis) Ashcroft  and husband David of Moon Twp., PA, and Tim VanVoorhis of Eighty Four, PA; four grandchildren, Ian, Elise and Erinn Ashcroft and Morgan VanVoorhis; two brothers, Victor VanVoorhis of Mansfield, TX and David VanVoorhis Paducah, KY; several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are his wife Gloria (Rados) VanVoorhis who died in 2006, a brother John VanVoorhis and a daughter in law Ashley (Taylor) VanVoorhis.

At the request of the deceased funeral services are private and under the direction of the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, Ltd. Beallsville, PA. Interment will be in Scenery Hill Cemetery.
