Sulo J. Alto, 101, of Washington, PA (formerly of Scenery Hill) died on Friday May 15, 2026, in his home surrounded by family.
He was born on March 29, 1925, in Lahti, Finland a son of the late Charles and Siami Alto. In 1943 he graduated from the California Area High School and later received his bachelor's in electrical engineering from the WVU University. Sulo also attended the University Pittsburgh where he received his Bachelor's and master's in education. Sulo was a proud WWII U.S. Navy veteran serving CPAC for Admiral Nimitz in Guam.
Mr. Alto was a self-employed farmer for his entire life, he also worked as a Mechanical Engineer for over 35 years for IBM in Pittsburgh, PA. He loved being outdoors, farming, and taking care of his animals. Sulo was always proud of his corn and looked forward to his weekly gathering of IBM retiree's. Dancing, traveling, and swimming at Wellness CTR was also something he enjoyed.
Mr. Alto attended Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church for many years. On June 19, 2008, he married his wife Linda Matthews Alto who survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife is his daughter Shelby J. Alto Carson (Al "Poodie") of Scenery Hill, PA; grandchildren Natalie and McKenzie Carson; numerous extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his former wife Lottie Burchesky Alto.
Friends will be received on Tuesday May 19, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home Ltd. 2830 Main St. Beallsville, PA. Funeral services and Military Honors will be accorded privately. An online guestbook is available at www.GreenleeFuneralHome.com
