Obituary

Shirley H. Goozdich, 81, of Deemston, passed away peacefully at home on February 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born December 4, 1944, in Millcreek, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Deborah Pauline (Williston) Haught.

Shirley graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1962. While working in Washington, D.C., she met her "main man," Lee R. Goozdich. They were married on October 16, 1963. In 1974, they moved into his family home, where they built a life together and shared 57 devoted years of marriage until Lee's passing on September 7, 2021. Shirley worked for many years as a bookkeeper before becoming the office manager for her son at National Pike Chiropractic. She retired in 2002 and spent her retirement years enjoying travel and spending time with family. Family was the cornerstone of her life, and she held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. She found joy in traveling, attending bluegrass festivals, playing cards, and serving others. For years, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels, offering compassionate service to members of her community. Strong in her faith, Shirley shared her love of Jesus with her family and lived her beliefs daily.

She is survived by her children, Lee M. Goozdich (Ruthann) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Lisa Pataski (Joey) of New Philadelphia, Ohio; her grandchildren, LaRae Kinder (who also lovingly served as her caregiver), Gabrielle Cogan, Hunter Pataski, Paige Tarley, Geena Goozdich, Luke Goozdich, and Alec Pataski; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Ronnie (Debbie) Haught of Staley, North Carolina; her brother-in-law, Nelson Hoy of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Franklin Haught and Darwin Haught, and her sister, Marian Hoy.
