Sarah M.  Bates, 85 of Oakland, MD passed away on May 9, 2025 in the Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital.

Sarah was born in Bentonia Mississippi on March 10, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Wade and Sarah Logan Benson.   She graduated from the Bentonia High School in 1957 and later received her bachelor's degree in accounting from the Frostburg State University.

She was employed as a bookkeeper for many years and enjoyed sewing, gardening and bowling.

She leaves behind three daughters Heather Stickel (William) of Fayetteville, GA; Sarah Williams (Keith Reardegan) of Buffalo, NY; and Carrie Garland (Eric) of Brownsville, PA; three grandchildren Miranda Cleavenger, Bridghid Garland, and Lugh Garland; two great grandchildren; and one brother Billy Benson (Charlene).

In accordance with her wishes her body will be donated to science, and a memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced.  The John B.
