Obituary

Ruth Underwood Amos, 96, of Bentleyville, PA passed away on November 11, 2024 in her home surrounded by her family following a lengthy illness.

Ruth was born on August 22, 1928 in Rea, PA  a daughter of the late Lillie Pastor and James Underwood.   In 1946 she graduated from the Ellsworth High School.  She then attended the Douglas Business School and achieved her associate's degree in business.

Mrs. Amos was employed in the clerical department for many years at the Cokeburg Company Store.

She had many different hobbies including reading, flowers, bowling, dancing,  and loved cats.  She also adored the color pink, and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Ruth was known for her amazing homemade bread, and Christmas sugar cookies.   She enjoyed bowling at the former Tan-O-Bel Lanes where she was in the Bentleyville senior League.  Most of all she was proud to be a wife of a former U.S. Marine.

Ruth was a lifelong member of the Bentleyville Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder and a Deacon in the Christian Education Committee.  She was also the Judge of Elections in Bentleyville for 20 years 1st precinct.

Surviving are two children Connie Gettings (Dan) and Craig Amos (Bernie) both of Bentleyville, PA; one brother James Underwood of Newton Falls, OH; grandchildren Bethany Burney, David Gettings, Carrie Mahoney, Johnathan Amos, and  Lindsay Wright; great grandchildren Cameron Amos, Paige Amos, Christianna Burney, Evelyn Ruth Mahoney, Sawyer Mahoney, and Madison Grace Wright;  several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her husband Kenneth Amos who passed away on December 11, 2007; a son Chris Amos, daughter Carla Drow, two sisters Emilie Herrod, and Esther Coleman, sister in law Louella Underwood.

Friends will be received  Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Greenlee's Bentleyville Funeral Home 619 Main St. Bentleyville, PA, 15314.  Where Funeral Services will be held Friday November 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Andy Scott officiating.  Interment will follow in the Scenery Hill Cemetery.   The family asks donations be made to the Bentleyville Presbyterian Church.    An online guestbook is available at www.GreenleeFuneralHome.com where you may express personal condolences.
