Obituary

Rudolph "Rudy" R. Johnson, 76 of Bentleyville, PA passed away unexpectedly in his home on Friday September 20, 2024.

Rudolph was born on September 7, 1948 in Mount Vernon, NY a son of the late Margaret Hershey Brewer.  He was a 1967 graduate of Bentworth High School.   He also obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science from the California University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Johnson was a United States Army veteran serving several years in the Vietnam War.  He was awarded several Service Medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Air Medal.

He was employed as a Lineman for the former Bell Telephone Company, and retired from Verizon after 40 years of service.  Rudolph loved spending time with his family, and grandchildren, he also enjoyed model trains, music, photography, and building computers.  A man of faith, he was a long-time member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bentleyville.

On April 5, 1969, he married his wife Cheryll Foster Johnson who survives.  They cherished 55 years of marriage.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children; Jennifer Johnson (Eric Isbell) of Bentleyville, PA, Jeffrey Johnson (Shakira) Charleroi, PA; and Erica Jones (Alfred) of San Antonio, TX; two grandchildren Bryanna Sikuku (Dennis), and Myranda Johnson (Jake Rahuba); one great granddaughter Avery Johnson.

Preceding him in death are his sister Sandra Jones Gordon, and a cousin Andrea Lee.


Friends will be received Thursday from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Greenlee's Bentleyville Funeral Home 619 Main St. Bentleyville, PA 15314 where Funeral Services will be held Friday September 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Layman Davis officiating.  Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies where Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army and the Washington American Legion Post 175.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to The Johnson Shaw Foundation,  https://thejohnsonshawfoundation.com/ .  An online guestbook is available at www.GreenleeFuneralHome.com where you may express personal condolences.
