Rodney Lee Rohrer, 66 of West Middletown, PA passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021 in his home after a lengthy illness surrounded by his family.

He was born February 23, 1955 in Waynesburg, PA a son of the late John Duane and Amy Lee Nyswaner Rohrer.

Rodney was a 1973 graduate of Beth Center High School.

After high school he was employed by the Bethlehem Mines Marianna where he was a member of the mine rescue team that fought the mine fire that closed the mine.

Rodney was hired as an EMT (part-time) at Ambulance & Chair Service in 1977. He was a coal miner at that time. He became a paramedic in 1991. In July 1990, because his heart was really in emergency services, he became a full time paramedic at Ambulance & Chair Service and was promoted to operations manager in June of 1996, retiring from that position in April 2020. Rodney grew to excel as the operations manager gaining the respect and friendship of the staff at ACS plus others in the medical field and fire departments. He was a proponent of emergency medicine advancements and development. He had become extended family to many over the years at Ambulance & Chair Service and will be sorely missed.

Rodney served on the Emergency Medical Services Institute/EMS West Board from 2002 until the present. He was on the Executive Committee/Executive Board from 2004 until 2020. He was a member of the Washington County EMS Council from 1996 through the present serving on many committees and projects including EMSOF and Conference activities. He was also active with the Washington County Opioid Overdose Coalition since 2016.

Rodney was a member of Sunset Lodge #237 F&AM and the United Mine Workers of America.  He enjoyed the time spent on his farm taking care of his animals and he also enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He was part of a founding group of men who established a rescue dive team in Washington County who worked with the county coroner using their skills assisting in the maintenance of several county facilities.

On September 23, 1989 he married Robin L. Craig Rohrer who survives. They celebrated 31 years of marriage.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a sister, Lois Pitzer (Glen) of Scenery Hill, PA (Rodney's favorite); four brothers, James "Jim" Rohrer (Pam) of Beallsville, PA, John Rohrer (Holly) of Centerville, PA, Mark Rohrer (Christy) of Washington, PA and Douglas Rohrer (Kristy) of Carmichaels, PA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deceased in addition to his parents is a sister in law Roberta Rohrer and a brother in law Tom McCarty.

Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 8 PM in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, Ltd., 2830 Main St. Beallsville, PA where Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 10, 2021 at 11 AM with Pastor Rob Fetty officiating. Interment will follow in West Middletown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests Memorial Contributions be made to Pet Search, PO Box 1653 Washington, PA 15301. The EMS Honor Guard will be posted at 5:30 PM    and EMS Prayer will be offered at 6 PM in the funeral home.
