Richard Gene Metris passed away following a lengthy illness on October 2nd, 2023, in Orlando, FL at the age of 83.

Richard was born on February 4, 1940, in Vestaburg, PA.

He graduated in 1958 from Bethlehem-Center High School and went on to complete a certification to become a butcher.  After working as a butcher for several years, he went on to work various positions with Vesta 5 Mining and Coal Preparation Plant from 1974-1983.  His last position was deckhand on the barge vessel, AnnaMarie.

Richard was married to Judith Kay (Hegedus) Metris for 23 years.

He is survived by his sister, Cindy Ann (Metris) Meszaros of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, two daughters, Judith Erin (Metris) Rinelli of Yardley, Pennsylvania and Maria Gene (Metris) Jiles of Lake Mary, Florida.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, Gina Rinelli Harris, Christopher Daniel Rinelli, Nyah Isabella Jiles and Sofia Kay Jiles.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, John Metris and Margaret (Marchisio) Metris, and his son, Richard Brett Metris.

Richard enjoyed golfing, cars, hunting, political debates, and sports.  He remained a devoted Pittsburgh fan until the day he died.  His grandchildren were his greatest joy and he loved sharing the photos and videos of them with all his friends. The love and laughter he brought to those who knew him will be missed, but never forgotten. His was a life to be celebrated, memories forever cherished in the hearts of his loved ones.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service in the Greenlee's  Fredericktown Funeral Home, Ltd., 42 Bank St. at Crawford Rd. Fredericktown, PA, Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 10:00am to 11:30am at which time a Blessing Service will be held with Rev. Michael Peck officiating.  A luncheon will follow at the Vesta 88 River House from 12:00pm-2:00pm.
