Obituary

Nicholas M. "Sonny" Swartz, 89, of Brownsville, PA (Centerville Borough) passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in his home surrounded by his family.

Nick was born on January 17, 1936, in Pittsburgh, PA.  He was a son to the late Nicholas and Katherine Evak Swartz.  He attended Turtle Creek High School and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.  For his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.  He was also a proud member of the Centerville American Legion Post #705.

Following the service, Nick was employed as an independent Truck Driver specializing in long distance moving for over 30 years.

Nick was an avid deer hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed working outside and mowing his lawn.  He was also on the Board of Directors at the Taylor Cemetery and enjoyed working there.  Most days he could be found spending time with his dog "Sonny."

Nick is survived by his wife Ruth, whom he married on January 22, 1972.  He also leaves behind two children Diana Vicha (Michael) of North Ridgeville, OH, and Ryan Swartz (Sherry) of Grafton, WV; and one grandson, Tyler Swartz of Fairview Park, OH.  He also leaves behind five nieces, one nephew, and several cousins.

Preceding him in death is his sister Rosemarie Schneider and half-brother Stephen Gorshak.

Friends and family will be received on Friday February 14, 2025 from 3 pm to 7 pm. in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home Ltd. 2830 Main St. Beallsville, 15313.    Services will be held Saturday at 11:00 am with Pastor Sheldon Barnette officiating.  Interment will immediately follow in the Taylor Cemetery where military honors will be held by the Centerville American Legion post 705 and the U.S.M.C honor guard.  An  online guestbook is available at www.GreenleeFuneralHome.com

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Taylor Cemetery, 600 Old National Pike, Brownsville, PA  15417.
