Michael Allen Shonts, 64, of Coal Center PA, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026. Born on November 1, 1961, Michael lived a life defined by hard work, dedication to family, and a love for the simple joys of life.
Michael was the proud co-owner of Shonts Drilling Company and spent many years working for Nicholson before dedicating 25 years of service to IPSCO. He was known for his strong work ethic, dependable nature, and ability to dish out sarcasm whenever he could.
Above all else, Michael was a devoted father to his two sons, Michael Allen Shonts Jr. and Samuel Shonts, whom he loved deeply and was immensely proud of. He treasured every moment spent with his family and especially cherished time with his granddaughters, Paislee and Elliana, who brought endless joy to his life and a new nickname -Happy.
Michael is now reunited with his beloved wife, Debra, whom he missed dearly. He was also preceded in death by his father, Richard Shonts; his mother, Mary Ann Shonts (Gee); and his older brother, Richard Shonts.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Michael Allen Shonts Jr. (wife Nicole Shonts) and Samuel Shonts; his granddaughters, Paislee and Elliana Shonts; his brothers, John Shonts and Scott Shonts; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Michael enjoyed working on vehicles, spending time boating and fishing, and creating projects in his wood shop. Whether he was fixing something with his hands or sharing time with the people he loved most, he found happiness in the moments that mattered most.
He will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his love for his family, and the many memories he leaves behind. Michael will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
