Matthew "Mac" J. Palyas, 83 of Bentleyville, PA passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday September 24, 2025 with his wife by his side.

He was born on July 15, 1942 in New Eagle, PA a son of the late Mathew and Dorkus Stanec Palyas.  Mac was a graduate of the Ellsworth High School, following graduation he was enlisted in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1968.  He was awarded several medals including Marksman, Expert (Rifle), and the Good Conduct Medal.

Matthew was a talented welder and was employed by the Lee Supply Company, and Nuclear Welding for several years.  Soon after he was employed at the Mathies Mine for over 30 years from where he retired.

Catholic by Faith, Mac and his wife Betty were lifelong members of the St. Katharine Drexel Parish.  He was also a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America.  He was well known for being able to fix anything, and wouldn't stop until it was fixed.  In his garage he enjoyed working on cars, mowers, and chainsaws.  His love for his family was strong, especially his great grandchildren.

On March 18, 1960 he married his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Vihlidal Palyas who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife is his daughter Beth Anne Ulens (Patrick) of Frederick, MD; two grandchildren Kayla Hess (Bob), and Matthew Palyas; three great grandchildren Arianna, Dominic, and Matthew; daughter in law Darlene Palyas; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death is his son Macie Palyas who passed away in 2018; siblings George and Paul Palyas, and Dorothy Jean Palyas.

Friends will be received on Tuesday September 30, 2025 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Greenlee's Bentleyville Funeral Home 619 Main St. Bentleyville, PA.  A blessing service will be held in the Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday with Deacon Al Poroda officiating.  Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies where Military Honors will be conducted by the Washington American Legion Post 175 and U.S. Army.   An online guestbook is available at www.GreenleeFuneralHome.com
