Kevin C. Smith, 67 of Brownsville, PA (Centerville Borough) passed away Monday, December 9, 2024 in UPMC East Monroeville after an ongoing illness.
He was born July 9, 1957 in Vestaburg, PA a son of the late Charles and Helen Metris Smith.
Kevin was a 1975 graduate of Beth Center High School and earned an associate's degree in art at IVY.
He was the Senior Art Director with Van Dine, Horton, McNamara, instructed numerous students in guitar and in later years, making guitars. His artistic talents were many.
His true passion in life was music and was considered a musician's musician with any project with which he was involved. Whether it was teaching private lessons at home or a regiment of students at the Guitar Gallery or performing with numerous bands over the years. Those in particular starting with "88 Transit" formed with his brother Kenny, "2 Thumbs Up", "Spitfire", "Brick City", and "Straight Shooter" to name just a few. Kevin's musicianship, sense of humor, quick wit, strong will and camaraderie is what made him special and he will be greatly missed by his band of brothers within the musical community.
Kevin was a member of the Fredericktown American Legion.
On September 9, 2011 he married Margaret "Maggie" Edwards who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Sabrina Kyper Lewis of Brownsville, PA and Chad P.E. Kyper of Uniontown, PA; three grandchildren, Haiden Urich and Piper Urich and Evelene K.J. Piper; two great grandchildren, Ryker and Henry Stewart; a sister Kim Hicks (Jeff) of Low Hill, PA; niece Nicole Hicks; nephew Joshua Hicks; cousins Cindy Mezaros and Terry Smith.
Deceased in addition to his parents is a brother Kenny Smith.
Friends will be received Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 2 to 7 PM in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, Ltd., 2830 Main St. Beallsville, PA 15313. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Cali Cats Rescue California, PA or Fredericktown American Legion.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 1 to 6 PM in the Fredericktown American Legion.
