Kay was an honest man. When he spoke to you, he looked into your eyes, because he believed that "your eyes are the window to your soul".
He was a great historian and fabulous storyteller. To our amazement, he remembered every detail. He was happy to share his life experiences with family and friends. His great-great grandfather Amos Knestrick, built several barns in the Scenery Hill area. Kay was very proud of his heritage and spoke fondly of his ancestry.
Some of his hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening (including his heritage garlic and his potato patch), Native American history, collecting arrowheads, reading, and spotting deer almost every evening.
Some of his favorite times were spent at his cabin in McKean County with his sons David and Alan, grandson David, great grandson Dalton, his nephews and good friend, Mark. Kay cherished the close relationships he had with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and always had a good story to share with them. He was adored by everyone who knew him!
On June 27, 1954 he married Carolyn Pivovar Stepp. They had been married for 63 years at the time of her death.
Surviving are two sons, David Stepp Sr. of Port Allegheny and Alan Stepp (Judy) of Scenery Hill, PA; three grandchildren, David Stepp Jr (Miranda), Aaron Stepp and Amanda Gianfagna (Keith); four great grandchildren, Emily, Marissa, Allison, and Dalton; several nieces and nephews.
