Joseph Kos, 95, of Centerville Borough, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at his home where he has resided for the last 75 years.

He was born May 7, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late John and Dorothy Legin Kos.

Mr. Kos was a veteran of WWII, having served from 1942-1945 in the US Navy as an LST 272 gunner and navigator in the Pacific theater of operations and had been wounded in the Solomon Islands.

He had been employed as an underground miner for Gateway Coal Company and had 45 years of service.  He also was a self-employed farmer, having helped operate the Kos family farm where they had a successful dairy operation for over 30 years and later raised beef cattle.

Mr. Kos was a member of the UMWA and enjoyed gardening, hunting, swimming, the Steelers, working in the yard, and also shopping at and seeing his friends who worked at the Fredericktown Butcher Shop.

He is survived by one sister, Kade Kos of Centerville and good friends Melvin and Alice Lacey of Centerville.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is one brother, George.

Friends will be received on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 11AM - 1PM in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, PA.  Interment will be in Westland Cemetery, Centerville Borough.
