James Ray Cowden, 80, of Scenery Hill, PA passed away peacefully in his home on August 2, 2026.
He was born on October 6, 1945, a son of the late James M. and Mildred Nyswaner Cowden. Mr. Cowden was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. For his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal (w/device), and the sharpshooter badge.
In 1969 he married the late Donna Brady Cowden who passed on December 28, 2018.
He was a hardworking man, and Coal Miner for 18 years as well as a Mechanic for several years. A man of faith he was a member of the Davidson Methodist Church.
Surviving are children Annette Franell (David), James Dean Cowden, and Kari Beckett (Brian); 3 grandchildren Brady Franell, Wyatt and Lauren Beckett; sisters Brenda and Mary Ann Cowden, brother Michael Cowden, sister-in-law Doris Cowden; niece Shelby Cowden Wright.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his brother Stanley R. Cowden; sister-in-law Sherry Cowden.
