James W. Barger, 88, of Washington, PA passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Sunday April 26, 2026, in Hawthorne Woods Assisted Living.

Jim was born at home on March 25, 1937, in Denbo Heights, PA a son of the late Hollister and Bessie Staley Barger.  He was a 1955 graduate of the Centerville High School.  Following graduation, he enlisted into the United States Army where he would retire as a Master Sergeant after 33 years between the Army and the Army Reserves.  Jim was proud of his service, and also a member of the Centerville American Legion Post 705.

On March 29, 1958, he married his wife Rosetta (Rhodes) Barger who survives.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as attending their various sporting events.

Surviving in addition to his wife are sons Jim Barger (Leslie) of Washington, PA and William Barger (Carol) of South Carolina; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; brother Dan Barger (Peggy); several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his son Robert Barger (Terri Barger who survives) and several siblings.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org

Family and friends will be received on Thursday April 30, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home Ltd. 2830 Main St. Beallsville, PA.  A Funeral Service will be held on Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Carl Rhodes officiating.  Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park, Briar Hill where Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army.
