Obituary

Frances H. Dorko Goroncy, age 96, formerly of Scenery Hill, PA, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the home of her daughter Jane in Malden, PA.

Born on February 24, 1929, in Ontario Village, Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Dorko and Elizabeth Kipikasha Dorko.

Frances was a member of St. Katherine Drexel Parish, Bentleyville, and a Secular Franciscan Sister who lived the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in fraternal communion. She participated in many church organizations and activities and was devoted to Christian life and her family.

Frances lived a lifelong commitment to serve others and lived this through her work with Meals on Wheels, Catholic Daughters of America, and the Women's Guild. She provided transportation for those in need, always praying "Jesus, Mary and Joseph, be with us on our way." She was faithfully devoted to attending daily Mass and praying the rosary. Her kind and generous heart touched many.

She loved being outdoors, working in her vegetable, flower, and rock gardens, praying as she pulled weeds.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, John Goroncy Jr., who died May 16, 1985, sisters, Elizabeth Kral, Anna Powell, Mary Smolen, Margaret Bertovich, and brother, Michael Dorko. Surviving are her children John (Bonnie) Goroncy of Danville, WV, Judith Heter of Fort Collins, CO, James (Lynne) Goroncy of Waynesburg, PA, Janice (William) Burt of Edinboro, PA, Jane Chmiel of Malden, PA, Joseph (Rita) Goroncy of Twinsburg, OH, sister Veronica Wilhelm of Amarillo, TX, 13 grandchildren, Patrick Goroncy, Anna Goroncy, Luke Heter, Sarah (Matt) Wolfe, Katie Goroncy, Andrew (Alyce) Burt, Ellen (Bryan) Ross, Aaron Burt, Jeffrey (Mallory) Chmiel, Jennifer (Josh) Reedy, Monica Chmiel, Jacob Goroncy, Justin Goroncy, 8 great grandchildren, Piper Wolfe, Elizabeth Ross, Lincoln, Reid and Heidi Chmiel, Owen, Zelie and Cecilia Reedy, and many nieces and nephews.
