Dorothy Bertovich Brova, 92, of McMurray, PA, formerly of Bentleyville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at The Waters of McMurray senior living community with her daughters and grandchildren at her side. Dorothy was born on January 21, 1932 in Ellsworth, PA, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Illuv Bertovich.

Dorothy graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1949, then went on to work at RCA in Canonsburg. She valued and maintained her friendships, many who referred to her as 'Birdie.'

She married her first and only boyfriend and the love of her life, Joe Brova, on June 30, 1951, and celebrated 60 wonderful years together gardening, traveling, dancing to polkas, and raising their three children: Joseph Brova (Sheila), Marianne Foglia (Francis), and Karen Bovalina (Dominick). She cared for her Joe until his passing from Alzheimer's in 2012.

Dorothy was an active member of the St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Bentleyville, the Catholic Daughters of America #1675, Ave Marie Women's Guild, St. George Lodge #35 Cokeburg and the Ellsworth Homemakers Club. She was an excellent bowler, belonging to several leagues through the years, and was a member of the Martha Washington Quilters Guild, making dozens of beautiful, treasured quilts that now proudly hang in her children and grandchildren's homes. She enjoyed attending the Bentleyville Senior Center with many old and new friends.

But most of all, Dorothy enjoyed her role as Nonny to her seven grandchildren: Emily Foglia Brauner (EJ), Katie Foglia (Savannah), Olivia Bovalina Hurley (Kyle), Anna Bovalina, and Michael, David, and Christen Brova. Dorothy was overjoyed to officially assume the title of great grandma with the birth of her great grandchildren Alessia Brauner and Lucy Hurley.

Also very special to Dorothy were her godchild Heather Hrutkay Stubert and bonus grandchild and neighbor Ben Neff.

Preceding her in death is son Joseph, brothers Thomas "Ike" Bertovich, John Bertovich, sister Mary Bertovich Culp (Woodrow), and nephews Richard and James Culp and many very dear relatives and lifelong friends.

Dorothy was very warm and kind, and she loved people. She could converse and become friends with everyone she met– and she often did. Her final years were spent living at The Waters, where she was known as "Dancing Dorothy" and thrived as she participated in activities and socials. Not surprising to her family, she was voted by residents as the "Life of the Party" and recognized with an award. She enjoyed her independence and continued friendship with residents and staff, and frequent visits and fun outings with her daughters.

Friends will be received Thursday from 3 to 7 PM in the Greenlee's Bentleyville Funeral Home, 619 Main St. Bentleyville, PA 15314 and Friday, October 11, 2024 where prayers will be said at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, Bentleyville Campus at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery. Memorial donations, if desired should be made to St Katharine Drexel Parish in Bentleyville.
