Carol Ann Metcalf, 77, of Pembroke died peacefully at home on Thursday, March 20, 2025 after a battle with cancer. She was born April 9, 1947 in Centerville, PA, daughter of Betty Zane Hickman Binns and William Morris Binns. She was also predeceased by her younger brother Bill Binns.

She is survived by her husband, Douglass Paul Metcalf; two children, Sarah Beth Metcalf (Sam) and Keith Douglas Metcalf; and three grandchildren, Arden, Emrys, and Zayne Ingalls Metcalf.

Carol graduated from Bethlehem Center Senior High School (1965) and Washington Hospital School of Nursing (1968) in Pennsylvania. After moving to Massachusetts, she worked as a nurse in the neonatal intensive care units at New England Medical Center and South Shore Hospital. She married Doug in Weymouth, MA in 1975. When they bought a home in Pembroke, she made sure it had a horse barn and paddock in the backyard!

Horses were a significant part of Carol's life. Her love of riding and just being around horses began as she was growing up on the family farm in Pennsylvania. She learned trick riding as a child and eventually enjoyed trail riding, dressage, eventing, and helping her daughter Sarah learn to ride. She was an active member and leader of South Shore Horsemen's Council and Heritage Dressage Association and ran several tack shops. She had many loyal animal friends throughout her life.

Road trips to visit her childhood home were always important to her. In her later years, Carol caught the travel bug, taking trips to Wyoming, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, France, Italy, Greece, Iceland, Morocco, and Egypt. When not exploring the world, she enjoyed video games, playing Wordle online with friends, swimming, gardening, doing puzzles, taking care of her animals, feeding the birds, volunteering at Goods Deeds Thrift Store, and driving her pick-up trucks (preferably on the back roads). Carol was passionate about decorating for Christmas, making Christmas cookies, and dancing! She never said no to getting an ice cream cone with the grandkids, even during her fight with cancer.
