Barrie Jane Coleman (Berman), 73, of Beallsville, PA, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
She graduated from Natick High School in 1967 and Drew University in 1972. Barrie was an entrepreneur, owning two businesses in her life, LMS and GG Gundies.
A passionate, loving, smart, fun and caring woman, Barrie's greatest joy was helping others and volunteering. She was the co-founder of the Auburn, MA Chapter of Junior Women's Clubs serving as its first Director. Barrie also served as Director, Junior Federation of Women's Clubs of Massachusetts and was an assistant to the International President of GFWC from 2016-2018. GFWC was a huge part of her life and her passion was supported by her husband.
Barrie was the consummate activist marching on Washington against the Viet Nam War and joined the Women's March on Washington in 2017. She participated in the Stop the Tower movement, served as an Auburn School Committee member, Girl Scout Leader and a Library Trustee among many other causes dear to her heart. She was a force, always advocating for what she believed in.
Extremely talented and creative in every aspect of her life with many interests and hobbies, Barrie took pleasure in sharing these with loved ones. Interior design, avid reading, gardening, sewing, fashion, crafting, collecting antiques, bird watching, eating cookies and having tea were just a few of her favorite activities.
Open arms, a warm heart, listening ear, compassion and love were the foundations of her relationships cultivating life long and instantaneous friendships benefitted by many.
Barrie is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 50 years Arthur. Two daughters Deryn and her husband Nathan of Auburn MA, Ashley and her husband Richard of Youngwood PA, 7 grandchildren Haley, Jake, Kalliyan, Millaney, Jacob, Emma, and Owen. A loving sister, Laurie Streiner of Pittsburgh, PA. Barrie is also survived by her loving extended family including many nieces and nephews and adoring friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Penny Berman, her father, Robert Berman and her niece, Jessica Streiner.
There will be a celebration of Barrie's life both in Pennsylvania and in Massachusetts at a future date. The family is establishing a scholarship to carry on her civic work in her absence, please consider in lieu of flowers, sending donations to:
