John G. Clair, 84 of Fredericktown, PA (Deemston Boro) died Tuesday, December 6, 2011 in the Donnell House after a lengthy illness.
He was born October 1, 1927 in Brownsville, PA a son of the late John Clair, Jr. and Flora Gossett Clair.
Mr. Clair was a 1945 graduate of East Bethlehem High School.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He served aboard the USS Miami and for his services he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific, American Area and WWII Victory Medal. He was a member of Hanson-Cole American Legion Post #391, Fredericktown.
Mr. Clair retired from California University of Pennsylvania where he had been employed in the carpentry shop. Most of his life he worked as a carpenter both as an owner of his own carpentry business and independently.
He was an active 53 year member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He served in several capacities in the church over the years and was considered one of the church's handymen.
He was always willing to serve in anyway he could.
After his retirement he continued to enjoy woodworking in his own woodworking shop. He also enjoyed fishing.
On July 10, 1948 he married Patty Keys Clair who survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Cynthia Fray (Ronald) of Bridgeville, PA, Deborah Baker (William) of Beallsville, PA and Brenda Anderson (Glenn) of Bentleyville, PA; four grandchildren, Nathan Baker (Carrie), Joshua Anderson (Amanda), Andrew Anderson and Marcus Fray; two great grandchildren, Alyssa and McKenna; one sister, Carol Hanna (Frank) of Ravenna, OH and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to his parents are three sisters, Bessie, Clara and Ruth; two brothers, Thomas and Glen.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, PA where services will be held Friday, December 9, 2011 at 12:30 P.M. with Rev. James Markley officiating. Interment will be in the Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville, PA. Military Rites will be accorded graveside by Hanson-Cole American Legion Post #391, Fredericktown. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Building Fund, 392 Ridgewood Drive, Fredericktown, PA 15333.
